Palm Sunday is a surprising day of excitement in the midst of the solemnity of Lent, as it portrays Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem. The people of Israel saw this as the long-awaited arrival of the Messiah who would restore Israel to greatness and greeted him with shouts of joy and waving palm branches, not realizing that this Messiah would save the world through his willing self-sacrifice.
At our Palm Sunday services 8:30 am and 11:00 am, the children enthusiastically reenact the excitement of the first Palm Sunday. Children ages 3 through 5th grade will have the opportunity to dress up in the clothing of Jesus’ time – please have them arrive 15 minutes before the service starts so that they can pick their outfit. We then all greet Jesus as he arrives at the beginning of the service, waving palm branches and calling out “Hosanna!” as he enters, a beloved beginning to Holy Week.
