Reverend Joseph Whitner served as the Pastoral Associate at Trinity Presbyterian Church of McKinney for 10 wonderful years. While Joseph primarily assisted with pastoral care for the ill and homebound, he constantly shared his love of nature and the outdoors as well.
As a child and a young man, Joseph’s family was never sure what kind of animal he would bring home, from snakes to squirrels… even a hornet’s nest! Joseph was a poet as well as a pastor and his poetry reveals how he found peace and renewal outdoors:
It is the sunset hour in the country. The lengthening shadows in the valleys and coves form a growing contrast with the bright green, tree-crowned hills, bathed in the light of the fading summer sun.
The ruffling breezes of the day have calmed.
A hush of stillness and peace quietly enfolds the earth.
In honor of his love of the natural world, Trinity’s Creation Care team established the Joseph C. Whitner Memorial Lecture Series this summer. This series featured speakers on a variety of topics about Practical Ways to Love Creation. Below you can view the videos of their presentations.
