At worship this morning, our Minister of Music, Don Roberts, PREACHED! Oh my did he preach! Don went to Seminary but his ministry is in music. He spoke this morning about Moses and the Rod of God. The scripture from Exodus talked about God’s exchange with Moses and about the hissing snake that Moses held in his hand and that transformed into the ROD of GOD. Don talked about Roosevelt Wilkerson, a homeless man in Dallas, that carved the Ten Commandments into tree branches he found along the Trinity River. Roosevelt made a living for himself and his wife making those Moses Sticks. President Bush and the Pope both own one of Roosevelt’s Moses Sticks. Don says what Roosevelt held in HIS HAND was not poverty but THE WORD OF GOD. Don challenged us to look at what we each hold in our hands. What is keeping us from using what is in our hands right now? Needless to say, this was profound to the listeners. Sitting in the choir, I could see the emotion of the faces of our church family.
To drive the sermon home, our University of North Texas interns sang this Ken Medema composition, Moses. Listen and look down at YOUR HANDS. What do you hold in YOUR hand today? What will you DO with it?
