I enjoy my walks with my dog, Sammy Su, and as we circle the block we encounter many creatures. Here are a sampling of the butterflies we see:
This butterfly bush is the most active plant in my landscape, attracting bees, butterflies and snap dragons. During the upcoming Monarch migration through Texas it will be common to see 20-25 Monarchs on this bush from 10 am – 2 pm.
Butterfly bushes are beautiful, easy to grow, and require minimal day-to-day care. Even major storms have little effect on these hardy shrubs. They thrive in harsh environments, such as polluted urban settings. They’re also resistant to insects, drought, and stress. The bushes require little attention, so even weekend gardeners can enjoy their lovely blooms and resident butterflies.
The annual monarch migration will be coming soon. In McKinney, Texas (Latitude: 33° 11′), the peak migration dates will be from September 29 through October 11, 2020. Click here for more information.
