Protests and riots are disturbing, but how much do we really know about the lives and problems of fellow citizens and even fellow Christians who are born with darker skin? As Christians we are expected to pay attention, to listen to the voices of people who are struggling. Are you willing to try?
Join a group at TPC to read and discuss the book Waking Up White, the story of a white suburban woman, who finally stopped to listen and try to understand the voices of the black inner city youth she was trying to help. You can request to be added to one of the groups listed below by contacting the church office at tpcmckinney.org/contact.
Don’t want to join a group? Participate INDIVIDUALLY or with a friend by joining 21-Day Race Equity Challenge put together by Myers Park Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC. They have invited anyone who is interested to participate in this challenge, which involves daily reading selections, video watching, and other opportunities to listen and learn. If you participate you will be exposed to voices and perspectives different from your own through articles, videos, and podcasts.
Or visit the Learning Together So We Can Breathe Together blog post at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church to see a list of books, podcasts, videos, and articles that you can read or listen to on your own.
