Creation Care

We want you to drink water

June 8, 2017 by J Z

As summer approaches, it’s important to stay hydrated, especially if you and your family spend time outdoors. We want you to drink water, but please use RE-USEable bottles! Bottled water is a resource-heavy industry and an energy intensive process.

Here are the facts:
  • Americans throw away about 60 MILLION water bottles a day (22 BILLION/year). Less than 1/4 are recycled, and when they are, recycling requires large amounts of water.
  • It takes 3 liters or more of water to produce 1 liter of bottled water, and this is contained in a petroleum based plastic meaning it requires our oil resources to produce plastic bottles.
How much oil?

About 17 MILLION barrels of oil annually. Every 12 months = 17 million. Try to wrap your mind around what 17 million barrels looks like. If there was no alternative, then this may not be so mind boggling, but plastic water bottles are a modern invention created only for convenience. Plastic water bottles are simply hydration storage and delivery systems that cost consumers from 240-10,000 times more than simple, available tap water. In some places, you can purchase 1,000 gallons of tap water for the $1.50 you spend on one bottle of water.

How does this make sense?

The fact is plastic bottles are hurting our environment, especially our waterways and oceans. Please commit to using healthier, more cost effective and less harmful RE-USEable bottles instead. You won’t have to go too far, as we have aluminum bottle waters at TPC for purchase.
